Our Next Logical Steps
Microbreweries are always trying to find new opportunities, new markets, new sumptuosities to pacify the maddening crowd. At MNB, we’ve been debating for some time about how to follow suit, especially since our brewing has been blowing up recently, now that we’ve so finely honed our craft. We decided to go in a direction that was really new.
The logical direction of our genius: malt liquor.
I mean, think about it: no one from the micro side is into the business, and malt liquor is everywhere – corner marts, trailer parks, swap meets. Besides, it’s a whole other world that’s dominated by the macros that we haven’t touched yet…and if we exist to do anything as microbrewers, it’s to bring down the macros.
So, then, Monsieur “English 800,” which doth insist on spelling ‘Olde’ with an ‘e’ – prepare thyself for a malty onslaught of thy foes at Mth-Nth-Bth. For we shall henceforce be marshalled to thy destruction forthwith.
But I digress. Most exciting to us is the fact that the competition in this market is fierce, requiring the patience, energy, and keen insight that the best microbreweries have been shown to possess. Merely creating a beverage of 40-oz. capacity that can be sold for less than $2 is a feat in itself, in our book…much more testy than, say, maintaining your monkish calm when walking the beer halls at Rochefort. I mean, who wants to spend time achieving the perfect extraction rate on your all-grain when you could be enjoying a malt liquor of the finest quality that only took 5 dollars and 20 minutes to make?
We’re hoping to roll out the beer in time for our August kick-off, so keep a keen lookout at this esteemed list to find out when we’ve arrived. Or maybe this one. Mmmm…maltyyyy….

Peter: You’re out of the club.
Come on…how can you say no to Billy Dee Williams?
I agree with Jonathan. Jeff, I snagged you a PBR hat a show last night. I’ll bring it Monday.
Glenn, you’re the man!
Here’s my question for Billy. What is it, exactly, that works every time?
Since Billy Dee is a close personal friend, I called him up. Billy just sort of chuckled – that deep and low chuckle that he’s so famous for – and said, “Brother, it works for your jive, and it works for the hive.” Which I don’t understand.
Wait… it works for my hives? Peter, I take it back. As long as you’re friends with Billy Dee, you’re in the club.
I bet he has a pool filled with ice and 40 ouncers.
