The Beer Bell Curve (makes for an interesting lunch conversation)

While at lunch with my co-workers today, an interesting subject rose to the surface: the Beer Bell Curve. I forget how… or why… but in general everyone is supportive of my brewing efforts, so most likely it came up in the ceaseless praise for being God’s gift to beer. But, as usual, I digress.

In essence, the “Beer Bell Curve” states that alcohol can improve your performance up to a point, but once you’ve reached that “optimum beeritude” (brewvana?), any additional alcohol will then lower your performance exponentially. This, apparently, is true not only with such games as beer pong and darts, but also with work, including, but not limited to, business writing and math equations. The Beer Bell Curve could also be applied within a social framework. A little beer loosens you up around others, a lot of beer knocks you out.

Question: Is this accurate? It makes sense to me, though I’m still having a hard time justifying going through life with a constant buzz.

My hops love Spiderman

hopstwine.jpgWhy Spiderman? Because, unbeknownst to my roommates, I have converted our backyard sand volleyball court into a bona fide giant web. And the hops (William, in particular) are loving it. Yes, it’s a huge mess of twiney eyesore…

But she’s MY huge twiney eyesore. These hops are actually fascinating to watch. They grow in a clockwise motion, following the sun across the sky, and scale up whatever you train them on (in this case, a web of twine). The stalks are kind of sticky… not the regular kind of sticky, but more like a high-coefficient-of-friction kind of sticky. Yeah, that totally makes sense. Good description, Jonathan.

NEW! IMPROVED!

After some recent failures and a few successes, we’ve updated the Brews page with descriptions for several new beers. Boring content by Jeff, amusing witticisms by Jonathan. And remember as you read about beers that make your mouth water, the only way to taste Monday Night Brews is to stop by Joel’s on Monday nights.

Double [IPA] Trouble

jeffbleeding.jpgNothing says dedication like a bloody gash followed by the words “Get the camera!”

Jeff had a run-in with the Carboy Fairy while we were brewing our Double IPA during our Memorial Day early morning brew session. The Carboy Fairy won. We were washing out and sanitizing a couple of these glass bad boys to ferment our Double IPA in when Jeff tripped or something… I don’t really remember. It was all a blur.
