2x the months, 2x the pint glass winners
August slipped by without a monthly pint glass winner, but we plan on picking up the slack this month. I would like to formally congratulate August’s winner, Tom of Bearbrook. He lives near Nashville, my hometown, which automatically makes him cool.
Not to be outdone, Eric of Cure For What Ales You and Evolvor was also randomly selected to be September’s winner. This month I used an emerging quantitative technique called “close my eyes and scroll through my address book.”
Congrats guys! Expect your pint glasses to arrive soon. Beer not included.
Brewing withdrawal
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think I’m going through brewing withdrawal. This does not bode well for the rest of the week. I’ve got to say, these so-called “holidays” are really cramping my style. I think I’ve come to embrace brewing on Mondays as a sort of therapy. A way to reconnect with everyone and create something good. It’s days like this that I realize how much I love brewing beer.
My name is Jonathan and I’m a junkie.
Happy Labor Day! (MNB cancelled tonight)
We’ll be taking a break from brewing this Monday to bust out the burgers (and beer). Fortunately, I come bearing gifts. I bring you Andy’s handiwork from last night.
Turns out our friend Andy fancies himself a chef. He just bought a book on food and beer pairings, and decided to try it out on us last night. We didn’t have any Monday Night beer on hand because Joel was mysteriously “out-of-town,” so we paired Lagunitas Maximus IPA with Andy’s braised pork chops with orange zest and jalapeño glaze, stuffed chorizo poblano peppers and corn pudding:

It was delightful. But the real feather in the cap was dessert: a dark chocolate souffle with vanilla bean ice cream, paired with Rogue Shakespeare Stout. Andy, you truly are a pretty good guy.

And on that note, happy Labor Day. We’ll be brewing next week, and we have it on good notice that Jeff, that endangered species of a brewmaster, will be joining us. (Just kidding, we love you, Jeff).
If you’re bored today, take a picture of some beer-related activity and send it to pix [at] mybeerpix.com. The good folks at My Beer Pix have opened up their blog to everyone for this weekend only.
