Charlie Papazian and the idols of brewing

Yes, that’s exactly what it looks like. Charlie Papazian, the Godfather of Homebrewing, has accepted my Facebook friend request. As a homebrewer, there are few people (okay no people) I idolize more than Mr. Papazian. He wrote the first edition of The Complete Joy of Homebrewing back in 1984. I was 1 year old. What other beer folk do I idolize?
- John Palmer (author of How to Brew)
- Michael Jackson (the late king of beer reviewers)
- Stan Hieronymus (author of Brew Like A Monk and an amazingly insightful website)
…and I just noticed that all four of my beer idols write books. Perhaps I missed my calling. I could put Jimmy Carter on that list. But I won’t, because I think he wrote a book and that would just make me look more like a writer wannabe. Would you guys add anyone else to the select few idol-worthy beer folk? Maybe a Jim Koch (too annoying) or a Sam Calagione (the pretty boy of American brewing)?
For the record, Jim Koch hasn’t written a book yet. Maybe he SHOULD be on the list.

I idolize a different Michael Jackson
oh glenn, good to have you back. kind of…
