A/B logo testing: revised MNB logo based on your feedback

Feb 4, 2009   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, MNB: legitimate business  //  17 Comments

First off, I hereby declare this week THE WEEK OF THE LOGO. Second, I went back and revised the logo based on some of the feedback that kept cropping up:

  1. Loosen the tie a bit
  2. Unbutton the top button

So. Which do you prefer? A or B? Click to see the image larger. Vote in the poll, leave any other feedback as a comment. Thanks guys. I can’t think of too many other businesses that can mass tackle these kinds of decisions to make sure we launch with the best possible product and packaging.

After processing an overwhelming volume of feedback on the new logo…

Wow. 36 comments in a little over 24 hours? You guys aren’t playing around. And all in all, the feedback on the new logo is very positive. Which reaffirms a lot of the work that went into this logo, thankfully. Please do continue to leave feedback. We aren’t going to change out the monk overnight ? this new logo has been in the making for 2-3 months now and we want to make sure it’s the logo we can sit with for the rest of our existence.

I don’t know if there’s a whole lot that we’ll change. A few people mentioned loosening his tie a bit, so I’m going to work on that this evening. We can do an A/B comparison.

And if you’re curious who the inspiration was for the male figure, let’s just say that the correct answer has been guessed. I’ll leave it at that for now.

Thanks again for all of your thoughtful comments.

New MNB logo

First, in case you were wondering, there’s no brewing tonight. Baby Teddy has thus decried.

Second, we’re finally ready to introduce our new look.

With a focus on the weeknights comes a focus on celebrating the work week. Hence the guy in the suit with the loosened tie. First person to guess who the inspiration for the figure was gets a free beer. We like this because it’s bold, easy to read and digest, and one-color. It should translate to printing on pint glases fairly nicely. Another reason why I like it, and why it took so long to develop, is because of how easily it fits onto a beer bottle.

Our thinking is that each beer label will feature this image as the dominant visual element. But each beer label will have a slightly different rendition of our logo. For instance, our Eye Patch Ale will sport our weeknight reveler with an eye patch.

Here’s an example of what the logo might look like with a little more color:

So. Thoughts? Comments? Gripes? Lay them on us. For us the biggest disappointment is seeing the monk go. But I do think that this guy represents us, our brand and our target market better than a monk. So it’s really not that disappointing, if you think about it.
