Eye Patch on the way

Nov 30, 2009   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Monday Night  //  2 Comments

We’re brewing up our Eye Patch Ale tonight ? a very similar recipe to the last, but we’ve backed down on the bittering hops ever so slightly. Come on over to Jeff’s around 8pm to help us clean some kegs. We should have a little beer on tap as well.

Bring your warm clothes. As Yoda says, “July it is not. Freezing it is. Fire where is the?”

Let me paint a picture for you…

You had a nice little jog earlier in the morning, but since then you’ve been gorging yourself on Doritos and watching the marathon of Flipping Out on Bravo. Things have been pretty much awesome. But now you’re thirsty and a cold Monday Night would really hit the spot. Trouble is, you’re not sure what day it is. And you reeeaaallly need to it be Monday. Because Mondays are the best (and currently only) times to drink Monday Night beer. How do you figure out if it’s a Monday?

Now there’s an easy solution! Check out our latest website, IsItMondayNow.com. It will tell you when it is (and isn’t) a Monday, taking all the guessing out of your life.

Thanks to Ben for helping with the coding. Share with your friends and family! There is no longer a reason to not know if it’s a Monday or not! It even works on iPhones!

Nope.

We are not brewing tonight, so don’t show up. But don’t you worry about us. We’ll be holding a pre-Thanksgiving business meeting instead. And no, you’re not invited. Unless you have some very rare and expensive beers to share.

Monday Night Recap: “Keeping the Awesomeness in Check” edition

Ah, the crisp air of mid-November. Perfect for brewing a Scotch ale while wearing an ironic trucker hat. Ashton Kutcher would be so proud. We’ve had some issues with mash efficiency on our new Brew-Magic, and last night was no exception. However, we think we might be narrowing in on the issue. And contrary to our initial hypotheses, the culprit is not Joel. Fortunately we still hit our target gravity.

We had Drafty Kilt AND Eye Patch Ale on tap last night. So much MNB beer that frankly we were a little scared of the potential Awesomeness that could have ensued. Fortunately the Awesomeness was kept in check by Jeff, who insisted on playing with his spreadsheets while brewing again. I knew we kept that guy around for a reason.

Thanks to all who came last night! Also a note for the future: We have entered the time of year when fires are necessary. With this in mind, we are recruiting a few good people to start fires for us. The position is “Chief of Fire-related Operations.” Pay is in beer. Requirements are:

  • Capable of lifting wood
  • Capable of burning things accidentally, but also on purpose
  • A general mysterious and smoky vibe

Brewing. New and improved! This time with actual beer!

Nov 16, 2009   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Monday Night  //  2 Comments

We are proud as pickles (I don’t think that’s a phrase) to announce that we’ll be serving up some Eye Patch Ale tonight, alongside brewing. It’s been awhile since we’ve had actual MNB beer on hand, thanks to:

  1. The ferocious learning curve on our new Brew-Magic system
  2. Our fermentation chamber crapping out

Come celebrate with us at 8pm. We’ll also be brewing a batch of our Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale. We need your help keeping Joel out of the brew pot. He doesn’t understand the concept of “scalding hot and boiling.” Bring your A-game, Atlanta.

Monday Night Brewing? More like Wednesday Night Kegging.

Nov 12, 2009   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Brewing  //  2 Comments

Jeff and I have decided to branch off and start our own company, Wednesday Night Kegging. We won’t brew beer, we’ll only keg it. We haven’t fully fleshed out the business plan and revenue model, but we tested the concept last night when we kegged our fresh hop IPA in the hopes of having real, honest-to-God beer to drink on Monday.

Needless to say, things went well. Our fresh hop IPA may need a few weeks to mellow out after dry hopping, but we should have some other goodies to consume. We also drained the yeast off of last week’s stout. The jury is still out on this one. It didn’t ferment down to quite where it needed to, but we’re only one week in, so there’s still time for a late 4th quarter push.

Also of note: Kegging beer to Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing) is the closest second closest we will ever get to heaven on earth.
