Beer becomes center of Apple iPhone leak disaster

A prototype of Apple’s next iPhone was left at a German beer garden by Apple employee Gray Powell. Unfortunately for Apple, Gizmodo found it. And now German airline Lufthansa is getting in on the action. In an open letter to Gray Powell, Lufthansa employee Nicola C. Lange writes:

I recently read in the news that you lost a very special phone at a German beer bar in California. We all know how frustrating it can be to lose personal belongings, especially when it is such a unique item.

At Lufthansa we also noted with great interest your passion for German beer and culture. We thought you could use a break soon — and therefore would like to offer you complimentary Business Class transportation to Munich, where you can literally pick up where you last left off. Upon arrival in Munich, feel free to check out our new Bavarian Beer Garden Business Lounge, and experience the best that Germany has to offer.

Let this be a lesson to you, Gray. Don’t bring top secret hardware with you when you’re out drinking. Or maybe, if you are going to bring top secret hardware with you, try a Belgian beer bar instead. This never would have happened at Brick Store.

Monday Night recap: “In which Jeff climbs a ladder” edition

We met for an hour and a half last night to keg some Eye Patch Ale and smell the gentle wafts from our still-fermenting Belgian wit, brewed with fresh-grated ginger. It’s exciting to have our Belgian wit ready again. It has been too long, my summertime friend.

It’s rare to see Jeff do much actual work on Mondays. He’s usually busy fraternizing with the Monday Night faithful. Which is why pictures such as this are hard to come by:

Granted, it may not look like Jeff is actually working. But I can assure you that he is doing more than hiding from the cares of this world by climbing a ladder and smothering himself in hop bines. Jeff is doing what is called “arranging” in the “flower arranging” profession. A task that is both manly and necessary to maintain the specific design aesthetic Jeff is trying to achieve. A slow clap for Jeff, everyone.

A. Slow. Clap.

For.

Jeff.

Call it an “Informal Beer-centric Gathering”

Apr 26, 2010   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Monday Night  //  No Comments

While we aren’t brewing tonight, we would like to meet up to keg a few beers. So feel free to join us. We’ll have a shorter night tonight, between 8:00pm-9:30pm. And Jeff will kick you out at 9:30pm. Be advised. Harvard guys make really good bouncers.

The Search for God and Guinness

Book-God-Guinness-by-Stephen-Mansfield

I am currently reading The Search for God and Guinness by Stephen Mansfield. I’m about halfway through and so far it is excellent. If you love beer and beer history (I’m looking at YOU, Maureen Ogle), this is a must-read.

That is all. Please return back to your regularly scheduled Friday activities.

No brewing tonight

Don’t even think about coming to Jeff’s tonight. We’re not brewing. Trespassers will be shot on sight. Jeff is a crack shot with a slingshot.

Cases of expired beer stolen from landfill

Apr 16, 2010   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Industry  //  7 Comments

According to an AP article:

Two Columbia [Missouri]  sanitation workers who apparently couldn’t stand by and let beer go down the drain allegedly took dozens of cases of expired brew from the city landfill. Police and city supervisors are trying to determine if the salvage was a crime ? theft of city property ? or just a policy violation.

The beer in question included about 700 cases of Budweiser and Michelob Ultra. The good stuff. I can’t imagine what expired Michelob Ultra tastes like. Any guesses?

Classic City Brew Fest in Athens, GA

Apr 14, 2010   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Festivals and Events  //  1 Comment

On Sunday Joel and I drove to Athens for the Classic City Brew Fest. We were accompanied by Scott since Jeff couldn’t make it. All in all, a very fun time.

We were able to reconnect with some beer folks we hadn’t seen in awhile, which is always fun. After attending many beer festivals in the state of Georgia, I’ve noticed a law of diminishing returns if you’re going to try NEW beers. There are usually a ton of GOOD beers at these festivals, but there are fewer and fewer beers that I haven’t had yet. Which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just a thing.

It’s also imperative to decide who the designated driver is ahead of time. Because something like this is bound to happen:

Scott and Joel were in a dead heat for the “Who can look the most like a tool at The Varsity” Contest. Scott slipped on his shades and won it fair and square.
