NO BREWING – BALLS DROPPED
Ok, that came out wrong. But here’s the bottom line. Joel is on a plane to…uh…Joel, where are you going? And Jonathan is in Italy. Which means no brewing. Folks, we dropped the ball. It won’t happen again.
Payback is a Joel

The following is only loosely related to Monday Night. The following is a personal vendetta against Joel, my business partner.
Dear Joel,
I miss one week of brewing, and I get blasted on our blog? Joel, you overstep your bounds. And unfortunately for you, when we were kegging beer earlier this week, I had my iPhone handy. Yes, I DID manage to get a picture of those shoes you were so proud of. You remember the ones? The blue ones that looked like a Smurf had thrown up on them. Now it’s coming back, I’m sure. You decided they would pair well with dress slacks, a nice button up, and an eye-melting plaid sports coat. It was very Rodney Dangerfield, so congrats, you nailed it.
Joel, just because you’re good at building things and expediting processes doesn’t mean that you should be allowed to dress yourself. Let this be a lesson to you.
Sincerely, your business partner,
Jonathan
Okay, rant over. We will now continue with our regularly scheduled blog posts. And brewing. Join us on Monday at 8pm. I’ll be out of town again, so I’m curious to see what crazy slander Joel can come up with to post on Tuesday.
Monday Night recap: “Legalese” edition

In what will surely go down as one of the most enjoyable Monday Nights in history, last night we reviewed our 27-page operating agreement. Yes, beer was involved. Drafty Kilt, specifically. Operating agreements are rarely sexy, and ours is no exception. However, it’s important that we take the time upfront to hammer out how our company is going to work. We are especially sensitive to this because Jeff, Joel, and I are all friends, and we don’t want to subject our friendships to any undue stress that could have been avoided by a shared understanding of expectations and roles at the outset.
So while talking about tax implications and voting rights is not quite as fun as brewing beer, it’s an important component of starting a brewery. Fun fact: ab initio is a Latin term meaning “from the beginning”! Now go dazzle your friends!
The good news for YOU is that reviewing legal documents is so boring that we decided we HAVE to brew next week. So get your mesh tank top and your fanny pack ready. It’s on.
Our lawyers advise us against brewing tonight
Well… not really. But kind of. As you have probably forgotten, we’ve settled on brewing less to give us more time for the boring business stuff we need to do to work towards launch. And tonight we cash in our “boring business stuff” check to review an enthralling 27-page operating agreement, full of legalese and unnecessary capital letters.
Wish us luck. Yes, we will be drinking beer while we read. Just not brewing it.
Monday Night recap: the “postpartum” edition
As you may have read previously Jeff’s new child limited our ability to brew the last few weeks but thankfully we’re now officially back in the swing of things and into the postpartum days. I know you might be thinking about postpartum depression but actually it’s more like postpartum elation (for all of us…but especially for Jeff’s wife because she’s allowed to drink beer again).
Since Jonathan was gone (he allegedly had a date to the Patty Griffin concert) we made due and recruited my younger brother (in town for the week) to help us. It turns out he was just as good at all brewing related tasks as Jonathan with the only differences being:
- He didn’t post a new tweet ever 5 minutes
- He has better taste in music (we didn’t have to suffer through some random/terrible band from Jonathan’s music library)
- He didn’t make any offensive/inappropriate comments to our wonderful patrons
Oh, and the wort didn’t boil over like it does when Jonathan watches it. Wow.
Also, we brewed a pale ale…come back in 4 weeks to find out how it turns out.
Brewing is ON
The much-awaited Monday has arrived. Join us for brewing tonight at Jeff’s at 8pm. Prediction: HOOOTTTT.
Baby-induced brewing hiatus continues
We won’t be brewing tonight to give Jeff and Hannah a chance to train their new baby in the ways of milling grain and cleaning kegs. We’re hoping to be able to fire up the burners again in the next week or two, so stay tuned!
