“It’s business… it’s business time!”
No brewing tomorrow (Nov 1), folks. Joel, Jeff and I need to put on our business socks and talk some beer business.
Monday Night recap: “Dog eat dog” edition
ROAAARRRRR. It’s not every Monday night that we have a dog show up in a dinosaur costume. Halloween must be near. While we were all terrified that Oscar the mutt might get it in his head that he was an actual dinosaur and start eating the other dogs, we were able to keep it together and brew as scheduled. We brewed up some Eye Patch Ale. Brewed it up real nice.
Speaking of “other dogs,” we had a couple others (not including Joel) in attendance. Don’t worry, we don’t let them drink the beer. But we do let them eat the grains from time to time.
We’re excited to see how our first stout of the year turns out ? give it another 2 weeks or so. We’re also excited that the temperatures seem to have been perfect for brewing these last two Mondays. Not too cold that it locks up your arm when you stick it in a bucket of sanitizer, but not too hot that it takes a fortnight to cool the wort. Let’s keep that up, Mr. Weatherman.
Brewing. Is. Happening.
8pm. Jeff’s house. IPA.
Tap handles arrive!
I arrived home yesterday to 8 boxes of the final production MNB tap handles. From all I can tell these things look even better than the pre-production versions and can’t wait to get these out into the wild. What bar is NOT going to want one of these behind the counter is really the question.
From here they’ll join the thousands of MNB pint glasses sitting in my basement eagerly awaiting the launch…
Ale Sharpton shows us some love

Atlanta-based beer writer Ale Sharpton showed up on Monday and wrote a little diddy about us. My computer is telling me that “diddy” isn’t a word. Well, Mr. Computer, perhaps you should take that up with THIS GUY. You should probably read the whole article, as it is an epic storytelling masterpiece of one man’s massive Monday night, but here’s an excerpt:
After a series of turns and side streets, it’s West Side location turned out to be a backyard with steaming beer vats, a hop vine, an open garage with a custom-made refrigerator specifically to run draft lines through holes drilled in its door and about 30 folks holding Monday Night glasses filled with homebrewed IPAs (the “Rye” and “Toasty”) chatting it up.
Update: Apparently the word is “ditty,” not “diddy.” Thanks, Mr. Computer!
Monday Night recap: “A stout turnout” edition
Are we allowed to use the word “stout” as a pun in two consecutive titles? My brain is telling me no but my heart is telling me yes.
We brewed the first stout of the year last night, a dark little number with oatmeal and flaked barley. Joel thought that “flaked barley” was simply barley that was an inconsistent friend, always telling you he would hang out and then sketching out. But we set him straight.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the garage weather this time of year is incredible. INCREDIBLE. It’s the perfect weather for kegging some Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale. So that’s what we did.
Brewing went precisely as planned, except Jeff showed up late wearing a suit and a loosened tie. He thought he would get a free pass from cleaning kegs because he was dressed like the Monday Night logo, but he thought incorrectly. Hope to see you guys next week, thanks to all who came!
A stout Monday
Come one, come all to brewing tonight at 8pm! We will be brewing out first stout of the year in preparation for fall. We should have a little experimental IPA on tap (codenamed “Roasty Toasty IPA”), but you may want to supplement with some of your own beverages. See you tonight!
