Taking the night off

Feb 28, 2011   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Monday Night  //  No Comments

With Joel deciding to take a last minute “business” trip, we’ve decided we need to take tonight off. But you should know that we spent a very busy Sunday afternoon dry hopping beers.

Okay, so it wasn’t THAT busy. But still.

We came. We saw. We tasted.

Thanks for coming out last night, it was great to get back together. Joel was in charge of taking a picture of last night. So he decided to take the opportunity to try out a weird photo filter on his phone. JOEL, THIS IS NOT “ON BRAND.” The Monday Night Brand Guidelines (v. 20.3) clearly state that all photos must be in full color, poorly shot, and grainy. This is both poorly shot and grainy, but NOT full color.

Double facepalm.

Tonight, we taste!

Join us at 8pm at Jeff’s house as we ring in President’s Day with a little tasting session. Holidays that fall on a Monday are NOT overrated. We should have 2 of the following 3 beers on tap (though not sure which 2):

  • Eye Patch Ale
  • Blind Pirate Double IPA [working name]
  • Stout [as yet completely unnamed]

Sunday Sales in Georgia will have to wait

According to a source at WSBTV, a bill that would allow Sunday liquor sales in Georgia is dead in the water… again. While Sunday Sales has been one of those bills that gets resurrected and then promptly killed every year (like a friendly, lovable zombie), 2011 brought new hope:

Previous efforts to allow Sunday alcohol sales in Georgia have stalled amid a veto threat from former Gov. Sonny Perdue. However, Gov. Nathan Deal has said he would not veto such a measure.

Support among voters has also been mixed, along geographic boundaries. 67% of Metro Atlanta residents are in favor of Sunday sales, while only 31% of South Georgians favor the bill. Georgia is only one of three states that currently doesn’t allow alcohol sales on Sunday from stores.

Georgia’s alcohol legislation has traditionally lagged behind most other states, and allowing Sunday Sales is often seen as a first step in progressing the state to a more alcohol-friendly culture. Perhaps in 2012.

Zanzibar is apparently a real place. Just ask our own Weekday Warrior, Ryan, last seen hanging out in a trendy Monday Night tee in Zanzibar.

Don’t get your hopes up

Feb 14, 2011   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Monday Night, Schwag  //  1 Comment

We realize we’re continuing in a rather long streak of non-brewing at the moment, but we have to keep the saints of Monday Night (wives and future wives) happy on this Day of Valentines. So to tide you over, we’ve revised our metal sign design based on your feedback.

“Weekends are overrated” at the top, added a website, moved “Atlanta” to the bottom. Let us know what you think!

Metal beer signs and the coming apocalypse

Feb 10, 2011   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Perspectives, Schwag  //  13 Comments

Metal beer signs. They are in bars everywhere. One would assume that they are actually a decent marketing tactic, given their prevalence. However, I have a hard time rationalizing the ROI myself. Have I ever bought a beer because I saw a sign up? I don’t think so. Have you?

The only thing I can figure is that it’s a good relationship building tactic for a brewery (or distributor) and the bar or restaurant receiving the free sign. And it obviously can’t harm your brand. Unless your metal sign is covered in STDs. Or explodes metal shards into someone’s face. Or causes the apocalypse. In these rare cases, a metal sign might hard your brand.

Regardless, there’s a pretty good possibility that we will need metal beer signs at some point. And with that in mind, we thought we’d start thinking about them. We’d like to start pretty basic before adding the razzle dazzle (lasers, smoke machines, 3D motorized pirates). So here’s a rectangular mockup of what a metal sign might look like.

This is a first pass, so we’d love any and all comments from you, our faithful reader. Thoughts?
