Get your tickets for SweetWater’s Brew Your Cask Off

We’re excited to be a part of SweetWater’s upcoming Brew Your Cask Off event on Saturday, March 20. According to SweetWater:
We invited 75 special guests to roll up their sleeves, channel their inner brewer, and create a one of a kind cask! Enjoy a plethora of Real Ale created by our Retailers, a few Celebrities, some Media Folks, Home Brewers & our favorite Charities under the watchful eye of SweetWater brewers. Pre Sale $30 online or $35 day of for unlimited Cask samples.
Monday Night brewed up our own batch of cask ale for the event, which we’re calling Smooth Operator, sweetened with dates, smoothed with oats and finished with a touch of oak-smoked malt.
You can buy tickets here! Hope to see you there. Make sure to stop by.
Great Decatur Beer Fest this Saturday
The Decatur Beer Fest is back, and sold out once again. Joel will be holding it down for the Monday Night crew, so be sure to give him a hearty man-slap on the butt if you see him (ladies, high fives are also acceptable). Joel may or may not be tweeting the event under his moniker, @slackerjoel. I’m going to go with “No,” considering his last tweet is from September.
Unfortunately one of my best friends scheduled his wedding for the same weekend as the Decatur Beer Fest. Which puts him squarely in the “Used to Be One Of My Best Friends Zone.” Nonetheless, I will be attending the wedding in my last great act as a selfless friend.
We are speaking at the New Media Atlanta conference tomorrow
Even though we still haven’t found a suitable replacement for our chest freezer, and hence cannot brew any beer at the moment, time moves on.

Tomorrow I will be giving a short presentation at the New Media Atlanta conference, centered on the role of social media in business. I’ll be talking about beer, Mondays and… social media. If you heard our Ignite ATL presentation, it should be similar, but with a focus on how we’ve used social media to further our goals. It’s not too late to sign up.
If you haven’t heard the Ignite ATL presentation, we have it on good word that the official videos will be posted soon. We’ll be sure to post it once Colin gets his act together.
The Brewgrass Festival: Beer + Bluegrass = Awesome
On Friday evening I headed up to Asheville, NC with Jeff, Hannah and baby Teddy for the much anticipated Brewgrass Festival. Despite rain for much of the weekend, the clouds spared us on Saturday. Which is fortunate because Jeff wasn’t wearing his lucky watermelon rain boots.
We got to the Brewgrass Festival around 1pm and the bluegrass was already blaring.

Granted, not all of the “bluegrass” music sounded like bluegrass. There was a definite jam band feel at certain points in the afternoon. Which some people probably loved. We did not.
We had a lot of great beers, too many to mention. But Jeff and I both loved the casked porter from Green Man the most. Nuanced and complex, this porter was on the money.

We also met the fine folks behind Bruisin Ales, who graciously plastered our bodies with stickers. And we finally got to taste the beers from LoneRider, who we interviewed awhile back. I must say, they make some fine ales.
Since we won’t be making it out to GABF this year, it was good to get the festival out of our system. Highly recommended.
Asheville’s Brewgrass Festival this weekend

Question: What is better than good beer and good bluegrass music?
Answer: Nothing.
Jeff and I are headed to Asheville this weekend to partake in the Brewgrass Festival. We invited Joel but he had a pilates class that he couldn’t get out of. This even sells out months in advance, so we’re excited. The South is well-represented in the list of breweries in attendance.
So here’s the deal. If you’re going to be there, let us know. And if you’re not going to be there and having a really crappy day tomorrow, cheer up and think about how much fun we’re having in your absence.
MNB speaking at IgniteATL tonight

We are one of 18 speakers at the inaugural IgniteATL event taking place this evening at Georgia Tech. There are still a few (free) spots to attend, and we would love to have a few friendly faces in the audience to laugh awkwardly at our jokes. If you have nothing better to do from 6:30-9pm this evening, come on out! Make sure to RSVP because I hear the bouncer is pretty big.
So what is IgniteATL?
IgniteATL is a series of events designed to bring together interesting people from a variety of backgrounds and put together evenings of education. Passionate people will give 5 minute talks, consisting of 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds on their area of expertise or experience.
German Bierfest Tomorrow

Our friend and Monday-Night-attendee commonly known as John (frequent commenter) Alexander will be pouring beer tomorrow at the German Bierfest. Yes, the Germans did lose WWII but they nonetheless make some amazing beers (and cars) and you should most certainly plan to spend your afternoon there. If you’re so brave you can even come dressed up like this:

(I didn’t realize that’s what Germans look like)
If you’re smart you’ll get your tickets in advance here. Use code “BIER” to get $5 off
Lastly, I’ve discovered this great new thing called Twitter. I think it’s gonna be big. Follow me as I tweet the festival tomorrow.
