Martin Luther’s wife was a homebrewer

Feb 17, 2007   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Revelry  //  2 Comments

From an article sent in by a friend of MNB:

“Luther?s wife Catherine was a skilled brewer and his love letters to her when they were apart lamented his inability to drink her beer.”

The entire article outlines Mars Hills Church’s stance on alcohol
. I happen to agree with it. The article is friggin‘ sweet, so make sure to check it out. And now, a Luther-related parting shot:

“Martin Luther explained the entire reformation as ??while I sat still and drank beer with Philip and Amsdorf, God dealt the papacy a mighty blow.?”

How monks pray

From our friend over at The Beer Tap:

It’s funny because it’s like the Lord’s Prayer, but with BEER references! Get it?! No but seriously, this is how monks pray. I looked it up on Wikipedia.

For those of you who thought we weren’t serious…

Feb 13, 2007   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Revelry  //  No Comments

We present to you the apparel line of Monday Night Brewery. While only available at cafepress for now, I’m sure Wu Wear will be contacting us soon. Those Wu-tangers love their monks.

Long story short, if you’ve been holding your breath for a MNB t-shirt to support the cause and brag to your friends, you can exhale. Also, if you’ve been holding your breath in order to make friends, you should definitely exhale. I tried that and it didn’t work. I’m still a little dizzy.

Don’t forget to vote!

Be sure to check out our About section and vote for your favorite brewer. The guy on the left is my personal favorite. Notice the “devil may care” attitude, the massive nose bruise and the crazy trucker beard.

His name is Jonathan and he is my idol.

Pirates were a noble people

Jan 26, 2007   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Pirates, Revelry  //  No Comments

From another friend… All pirates had discrete goals for every voyage, decided in a democratic fashion before leaving port. An example:If you need any pirate gear, check out the Valencia store.

The Swashchuckler personified

Jan 26, 2007   //   by Jonathan   //   Blog, Pirates, Revelry  //  No Comments

Check out this clown. He’s totally Monday Night Brewery material.

Thanks to my roommate Scott Stephens for the pirate love. Speaking of Swashchuckler, Scott also told me why pirates wear eye patches. They wear a patch so that they can be “night-vision-ready” when going below deck. They just switch the patch over to the other eye and BAM. They can see in the dark. Keep in mind that Scott is a dirty dirty liar so I have no way of verifying this. But it makes sense.
