Closer to a new pirate-themed IPA name

Thanks everyone for stupidly ceding your beer name ideas to us for zero monetary consideration. You’re truly generous and/or naive. Of the 13 responses we’ve received thus far, I’ve hand-picked out a few of my favorites:

  • Eye Patch Ale (a play on IPA… think about it)
  • Mutiny IPA
  • Hoppy Plank IPA

Give us your thoughts on these, and suggest better ones if you’re pirate enough. A couple thought-starters:

  • Landlubber
  • Crossbones
  • Plank
  • Treasure

  1. You ask for Pirate names, I’m giving you parable names…
    Plank In Your Brother’s IPA
Treasure Buried in a Field IPA

  2. Yeah, I don’t know. Treasure sounds more like a name I would give something that I found in my belly button after wearing a new t-shirt than a beer I’d like to drink. I’d rather you go back to Swashchuckler.

  3. Kevin, those last bullet points weren’t suggestions for names, merely thought-starters. Treasure would indeed be a terrible name for a beer.

  4. I’m also a fan of the Eye Patch Ale, but I’m biased as I suggested it.

I think Mutiny’s pretty cool too.

    Or maybe Jolly Roger IPA?

  5. I like funny sounding words. What about Skullduggery Ale, or simply Skulldugger?

Or something with Scupper in it — another nautical term.

Or Forecastle ale, which would create instant insider status since it’s pronounced foaksul. Except that the word might resemble Newcastle a bit much.

So what about Jib something – Jib Jabber?

  6. EyePA may not be the best way to go… Check out the label for Lakefront Brewery’s IPA, which makes use of the Eye… It’s not pirate-themed, though, so there’s some wiggle room, but I’m not sure if you’d want to do something that might be seen as mimicking them…
