Crunkship 2025


On Jan 14, we carried on a tradition nearly as old as beer itself. We filled our “coolship” with hot wort, open the windows and let nature do its work: spontaneous inoculation, leading to delicious beer.


WHAT

30 barrels (that’s 910 gallons) of steaming wort, the liquid building block of beer- clocking in at over 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

WHERE
The Crunkship, our massive (12 foot by 10 foot by 1.5 feet deep) open-topped stainless steel vessel, at Monday Night Garage in Atlanta’s West End.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?

On one of the coldest nights of the Winter, we pump the hot wort into the Crunkship and pull in fresh cold air. The aerated wort meets the cold air to create massive clouds steam and condensation, combining with the city’s wild yeast and micro-flora. Then this inoculated liquid is fermented and aged in neutral wine barrels.

CAN I DRINK IT?

Yeah… eventually.

This Methode Traditionelle beer is the passion project of blending different generations of this beer from past years and aging it in barrels.

This year’s brew will be blended with 2023 and 2022 batches then bottle conditioned for an additional year, ultimately released in 2027. The final product is an award-winning beer that we call Imaginary Grace.

This base is also then fruited and aged in different barrels to make up some of your other favorite brands such as Spoken WisdomVinlogy and Faithful Instruction.It takes a lot of time and care, but we think you’ll agree that it’s worth it.
